Programme Manager

About the role

The Programme Manager will be responsible for leading and overseeing change programmes including the delivery of multiple projects and/or complex programmes, ensuring they align with strategic goals and deliver business outcomes. The role involves developing and implementing comprehensive programmes of delivery, ensuring compliance with the Change Management Framework, managing risk and collaborating with various stakeholders. Projects include Acquisition Transactions (both Sale Purchase & Portfolio Transfers), Migrations, Integrations and Regulatory projects as well as the delivery of business-related change projects. The role-holder will initially report into MLI’s COO with future reporting line subject to changes in the target operating model.   

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of programmes within scope, budget, and schedule constraints.
  • Defining and managing programme governance with internal and external providers – including planning the overall programme, monitoring progress and ensuring the delivery of the agreed business benefits.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
  • Manage multiple project resources, including staffing, budget allocation, and vendor relationships.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, issues, and dependencies to ensure successful delivery (RAID).
  • Provide regular project updates, status reports, and communication to stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing project team culture focused on achieving project goals.
  • Act as key liaison between local Exco and Group IT in the delivery of services from Group IT and demands placed upon it.
  • Manage communication to executive and senior stakeholders, building their trust and gaining confidence in the predictable quality of the delivery.
  • Conduct impact assessments and readiness evaluations to facilitate smooth transition into a BAU state.
  • Adherence to the MLI Change Management Framework, ensuring ‘gating’ requirements, project documentation and outputs meet required quality standards and specifications.

 

Role Requirements

  • Exceptional people skills and ability to motivate and work with colleagues from different functions.
  • The ability to define the best way forward for programmes whilst aligning internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional creativity and problem solving skills with the ability to look beyond the obvious and work out how to avoid and move around emerging problems.
  • Experience working within a life assurance / reinsurance business. 
  • Previous experience managing large scale Migration & Integration Projects and/or managing the Portfolio Acquisition process would be advantageous.
  • Formal project management qualifications would be beneficial.
  • Willingness to engage in the detail at all stages of the programme lifecycle to ensure clarity of direction and informed prioritisation calls.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work to business-critical and regulatory deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, interaction and influencing skills, accepting and offering constructive challenge.
  • Highly driven and enthusiastic individual who thrives in both independent and collaborative environments, consistently contributing to team.
