Reinsurance Accountant
About the role
You are a dynamic, self-motivated accounting professional with experience in the Life (Re) insurance industry. You have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and are confident in dealing with colleagues from different functions, geographic locations, and levels of seniority.
We are looking for a Reinsurance accountant to support the growth of Monument’s Reinsurance business. This role has responsibility over the accounting and financial reporting processes for various internal and external reinsurance arrangements within the Group, as well as managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. The role is based in our Dublin office on a hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for accounting activity of the Group’s reinsurance contracts including cash management, reconciliations, journal processing and financial close procedures
- Prepare management reporting, statutory reporting and regulatory reporting
- Perform reconciliations of reinsurance data to accounts, investigating and resolving differences with stakeholders and management;
- Manage all dependencies effectively and efficiently to ensure adherence to reporting deadlines;
- Work closely with key internal and external parties including cedants, European finance teams, auditors, tax advisors and outsourced service providers;
- Collaborate with various teams such as actuarial to provide data analysis and other information as required
- Engage with reinsurance administration team on reinsurance deals to ensure accounting data is appropriately recorded;
- Effective management of risks and controls
Role Requirements
- Essential: Qualification in accountancy CA/CPA/ACCA with 3-5 years post qualification experience and a strong understanding of reinsurance and accounting principles
- Experience in Big 4 or (re) insurance and knowledge of UK GAAP and Solvency II is essential;
- Experience in financial control and reporting, with a strong focus on risks and controls
- Ability to coordinate and prepare accurate deliverables with multiple deadlines in a multi-currency environment
- Proficient in Microsoft office, ability to adapt to new accounting tools e.g. general ledger, reporting systems, databases
- Drive for identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies, use of AI and challenging the status quo
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong attention to detail
