Senior Compliance Officer (11 month FTC)

About the role

Regulatory compliance is paramount to Monument Insurance and also to the Monument Re Group. The Senior Compliance Officer will work with the Monument Life Insurance DAC Compliance Team to help foster and maintain a sound compliance framework, by helping to manage compliance risk and add value through the provision of second line of defence compliance services and support. The post holder will play an integral part in assisting in the implementation, oversight and monitoring adherence to the company’s compliance policies, processes, systems and controls, reporting requirements, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, whilst maintaining effective working relationships with Compliance peers and regional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the promotion of an organisational customer centric compliance culture, committed to integrity, ethical conduct, and compliance with laws and regulation, by promoting positive examples of the standards required;
  • Take the lead within the Compliance Team on ensuring the financial crime framework, monitoring and reporting are appropriate and operating as designed and planned.
  • Help to ensure that the Compliance Function remains on track with its Annual Compliance Plan activities, commitments and diarised reporting requirements;
  • Assist the Head of Compliance to ensure that Monument Life remains in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations;
  • Provide training to the business as and when required;
  • Provide compliance and data protection advice and input to the Business as and when required. Assist in horizon scanning activities to identify applicable regulatory change. Keep records and compliance trackers and files up to date as required. Carry out administrative support activities e.g., maintaining compliance trackers, incident and regulatory logs 
  • Update and maintain Compliance policies and procedures;
  • Support Compliance involvement into acquisition projects, Compliance projects and other initiatives.
  • Execute the agreed Compliance monitoring plan within the agreed timeframes;
  • Assist in the management of stakeholder relationships
  • Manage the compliance mailbox to include all AML/Financial Crime Referrals 
  • Complete all ad hoc and PEP & Sanction screening to include monthly oversight of external screening
  • Manage and maintain the regulatory correspondence, regulatory returns and regulatory fees logs and ensure all returns are completed on time.
  • Manage all other compliance logs (AML referrals, complaints, risk events, COI etc)
  • Support the Compliance Manager in the management of all compliance related risk events and the RCSA dashboard
  • Manage the Customer Risk Rating Process and complete all quarterly reports as required
  • Complete Group compliance monthly reporting 

Role Requirements

  • 4 years working within an insurance firm ( multi-jurisdictional Life Insurer or Re-insurer will be an advantage);
  • A strong understanding of financial crime risk and monitoring in a cross border environment;
  • A developing level of regulatory compliance experience undertaking analysis of regulation and providing input and opinions to Compliance peers and managers;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral;
  • Strong IT skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stakeholder requests with own workloads;
  • Strong report writing competencies with the ability to summarise effectively;
  • Self-starter, flexible with the ability to plan and work on own initiative;
  • Excellent work ethic, organised and able to meet deadlines;
  • Objective, analytical and lateral thinking individual with an eye for detail, inquisitive approach and willingness to challenge the norm;
  • Seeks to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and managers; and
  • Proactive in helping to identify and implement new or better ways of working.
